About Gatelines

Welcome to Gatelines.com. The Gatelines system is a Human Design mechanics based system built to help our readers understand themselves better. We believe the most helpful way to work with and view Human Design mechanics is from the Gatelines (Gate-Line) level. So what is a Gateline?

Begin with a single Gate, then view and discuss it through the lens of its line and then of its planetary influences. Put the three together — a Gate, through its specific Line, activated by its specific Planet — and you have a Gateline. A full design is made of many of them, and they don't sit in isolation — they connect, and the connections matter as much as the points themselves. When two Gatelines link, they form a Channel, then Channels group into Circuits — the larger currents that describe how energy actually travels through a design. And then Centers — the nine energy hubs of a design — are shaped by exactly which Gatelines feed into them. A center isn't simply “defined” or “open.” It's colored by the specific Gatelines wired into it, which is why two people with the same defined center may feel its impacts very differently.

Why this isn't the usual starting point

Most Human Design readings begin at the “top” — with Type, Authority, and Profile — and many stay there. There's a practical reason for that. For most of Human Design's history, calculating a full Gatelines design by hand was slow, exacting work, and the broader elements were the sensible place to start: they orient a person quickly, and they carry real meaning. Ra focused on them for good reason.

The limitation isn't that those elements are wrong. It's that they describe a category a person belongs to, and a category is shared. Tell someone their Type and you've said something true — and also something true for roughly a third of the people in the room sometimes. It's a fair summary. It just isn't yet a portrait.

There's a simple analogy we like for this. Reading a person by Type alone is a little like measuring food by calories alone. The calorie is real, and useful, and easy. But a hundred calories of ice cream and a hundred calories of broccoli are not the same thing to the body, and the calorie can't tell them apart. Same for Type in Human Design. The broad number is a fine starting point. The actual makeup is the thing worth knowing.

What changed is the technology. The granular read that used to be impractical by hand is now something software can do completely and precisely. The deeper view is finally deliverable — so we built around it.

What we believe

Here at Gatelines we look at a person's detailed design (in the Gatelines), not as the broad category they fall into. That belief is the entire reason the system exists.

So our stance is straightforward. The broader Human Design elements are worth understanding, and we include them. But we lead with the specific: we read a design from its Gatelines up, follow the energy through its channels and centers, and keep the individual person — never the chart — as the subject the whole way through.

Gatelines is not a replacement for general Human Design studies. We have real love and respect for the system and for the practitioners who work in it; what we do sits alongside their work and goes a level deeper into it. If you already know Human Design, Gatelines gives you the detailed read underneath the elements you already know. And if you're new to all of this, you can comfortably start here first and come to the broader Human Design framework second. The order works either way.

What we built to do it

Everything we make serves that one idea — reading a person at the Gateline level — and each piece plays a clear role.

The Gatelines|Reportis the encyclopedia of your system's Gatelines: every activated Gateline in the design, each given its own chapter, documented in plain language. It is the complete, precise record — the map.

The Gatelines|AI Chat is the guide to that encyclopedia, and more. It holds the full design and reads from those same chapters, so it never works from a thin summary; it can take you straight to what matters most and connect the pieces into something you can actually use. It is also a real Human Design expert in its own right — ask it anything about the Human Design detail of a design, and it will discuss it with clarity.

Gatelines|Transits (coming soon) bring the same Gateline-level reading to the present moment — the current planetary movement, seen through a specific design rather than in the abstract.

And the whole thing lives in one place. We built the interface ourselves so that exploring a design, understanding it, and sharing it would be as clear and as simple as we could make it. That was the point of building it: to put this depth in front of a person without anything getting in the way. We read a person closely, and we let them see themselves at full resolution.
